A GeneXus Case Study
Mitsubishi faced a growing maintenance and productivity problem: its Kamakura Works’ Information Systems team had historically built most systems in-house, leaving a mix of legacy platforms (including end-of-life Oracle Developer 2000) and rising development costs. Constrained by on-premise security requirements, they investigated low-code options and selected GeneXus—adopting the GeneXus platform in 2018 and evaluating the G.RAD.E template infrastructure (built on WorkWithPlus) to accelerate development.
Using GeneXus with G.RAD.E, Mitsubishi began full development in 2019 and had released seven systems by July 2020. An internal evaluation showed a reduction in estimated effort from 44.5 person-days for equivalent Java development to 21.3 person-days using G.RAD.E (roughly a 50%+ cut), while also enabling reuse of existing SQL/stored procedures, multi-platform portability, and more cost-effective licensing per developer; Mitsubishi notes a learning curve and the need to standardize team methodology as next steps.
