A GeneXus Case Study
Sistema Nacional de Información Ganadera (SNIG), created for Uruguay’s MGAP, faced fragmented information systems and growing domestic and international demands for product quality assurance and stronger regulation. The customer needed to redesign and integrate multiple subsystems into a single national livestock information system with high accessibility, paper-form data capture, geographic referencing and analytical tools — a project built using GeneXus tooling.
The core Management System, developed mainly by Artech with GeneXus (using GXportal, GXplorer and GXquery, .NET generator and SQL Server), delivered an integrated web platform, GIS integration and data-analysis capabilities that enabled individual animal traceability. GeneXus-enabled implementation made Uruguay the first Latin American country with successful individual traceability, improved regulatory oversight and data-driven management, and drew international delegations (e.g., Chile, Mexico) seeking to replicate the solution.
