Case Study: Oxford City Council achieves enhanced public safety and unified city-wide visibility with Genetec Security Center

A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Oxford City Council Case Study

Using Security Center, the Oxford City Council upgraded to IP video surveillance, expanded coverage around the city, and centralized public safety operations to speed up incident response

Oxford City Council faced an aging analogue CCTV estate with more than 50% of public-space cameras offline, poor image quality, high maintenance costs and limited support for high‑definition cameras — problems that hindered incident response. After consulting RJH Technical Consultancy, the council chose Genetec and selected Genetec Security Center (with Omnicast and Federation capabilities) as the unified platform to modernize and scale its public‑safety infrastructure.

Genetec deployed Security Center in a phased rollout across housing estates, the Oxford Indoor Market and the public realm, enabling panoramic/360° cameras, centralized monitoring and bandwidth‑saving transfers over existing broadband (avoiding new fibre installation). The result was faster, simpler operator workflows, reduced blind spots, clearer evidence that aided prosecutions (including tracking a suspect who discarded a weapon), cost savings and plans to extend collaboration county‑wide using Genetec Federation.
