UMC Utrecht ensures patient and staff safety with Genetec Omnicast IP video surveillance

UMC Utrecht, one of the Netherlands’ largest hospitals, needed a reliable, scalable IP video management solution after replacing an outdated system that proved unstable. With over 15,000 daily visitors, three large buildings and a requirement to integrate video alarms into the hospital’s central BREINS building-management system, UMC Utrecht selected Genetec’s Omnicast (part of Security Center) on the recommendation of integrator VisiOn ISP.

Genetec implemented Omnicast to manage over 200 Axis network cameras, integrated with ACIC analytics and Commend IP intercoms and tied into BREINS for centralized alarms and procedures. The deployment includes 24/7 monitoring from three control rooms, Failover Directory redundancy, one-click instant playback, map-based Plan Manager navigation, continuous recording with seven-day archives and scalable storage on Pivot3 appliances—resulting in faster incident detection and response, streamlined investigations, improved staff and patient safety, and capacity to grow (another 50 cameras planned).
