A Genetec Case Study
The University of British Columbia operates roughly 8,000 parking spaces across its Point Grey campus and was burdened by time‑consuming enforcement and administration from paper decal permits managed through T2’s Flex Permit system. To increase compliance and simplify operations, UBC engaged Genetec and adopted the Genetec AutoVu automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) solution.
Genetec implemented AutoVu within Security Center, integrating it with the existing T2 system, AutoVu Free‑Flow cameras and pay‑by‑plate meters to create a license‑plate enabled parking platform. The deployment eliminated physical permits, improved enforcement productivity by 40%, deferred $400K in gate capital, cut $200K in parkade operating costs, reduced idling by about 150 lbs of greenhouse gases per day (≈150,000 lbs/year), delivered payback in under six months, and helped UBC realize over $4M in savings while improving customer service.
