Case Study: Tampa International Airport achieves enhanced security and faster incident response with Genetec Security Center (Omnicast)

A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Tampa International Airport Case Study

Tampa International Airport Soaring to new heights of security and efficiency with upgraded Genetec VMS

Tampa International Airport (TPA) — which handles over 16 million passengers annually — faced limitations with an aging, hardware-based analog DVR and access control system that made archived video hard to retrieve and single-component failures could knock out many cameras. After securing TSA funding for a major upgrade, TPA selected Genetec and its Security Center platform, including the Omnicast IP video surveillance system, to modernize and unify its security operations.

Genetec implemented Omnicast to manage over 800 cameras (over 1,000 video feeds with multi-imager devices), integrated video with access control, and deployed map-based Plan Manager and regionalized storage (over 1 PB across 60 Pivot3 servers). The upgrade enabled faster incident response and alarm mitigation, supported police in archiving more than 100 cases in seven months, delivered minute-level recoveries at checkpoints, provided partitioned remote access for TSA and contractors, and saved costs via a Genetec-built custom tarmac web feed that avoided installing a separate system.
