Taino Towers, a large subsidized housing complex in East Harlem, struggled with high crime and ineffective analog CCTV that made identification and investigations difficult. To modernize security, management hired integrator Plugout and moved to an all-IP solution centered on Genetec Security Center VMS, integrating Axis megapixel cameras, Cisco networking and other systems to replace the aging analog infrastructure.

Genetec’s VMS was deployed in a phased rollout (66 cameras in Phase I, 78 more in Phase II for 144 total) and was integrated with Axis cameras and the FST21 SafeRise in‑motion facial recognition for access control, instant alerts and remote health monitoring. The Genetec-based solution delivered measurable impact—up to a 90% reduction in crime per the District Attorney’s office, faster arrests (including a gunman caught within an hour), resolution of major incidents, improved staff efficiency and evidence quality—and has prompted plans to expand the system with several hundred additional cameras.
