Tackles major system upgrade with Genetec Omnicast video surveillance

Brisbane City Council faced a major security challenge during the ground-up restoration of heritage-listed Brisbane City Hall: aging infrastructure, the need to keep the building accessible to the public while being able to lock it down, and the requirement to track people and assets with only two security officers on duty 24/7. To meet these needs the Council worked with integrator Blake Systems and deployed Genetec’s Omnicast video management system as the core of a $3 million integrated electronic security solution, integrating access control, Ekahau RTLS tags and video analytics.

Genetec’s Omnicast now manages roughly 200 Axis 720p IP cameras and 120 AgentVi analytics channels, tied into access control and Ekahau location data and using Genetec Federation to enable multi-site operations. The result: a small security team can proactively detect incidents, use preset views and drag-and-drop monitoring to respond faster, and scale the system across the Council’s estate (plans to integrate ~900 cameras citywide); the control room can even act as a backup for the main operations centre 5–6 km away. Genetec’s solution delivered measurable efficiency, improved situational awareness and a future-proof platform for expansion.
