A Genetec Case Study
Québec City Jean‑Lesage International Airport (YQB), which handles about 1.6 million passengers a year, needed an open, scalable IP security platform to unify video, access control and ALPR, preserve prior hardware investments, meet federal restricted‑area regulations, and support major terminal expansion. After evaluating options the airport selected Genetec and its Security Center unified security platform to provide the required flexibility and integration.
Genetec implemented a phased Security Center deployment—Omnicast for video and Synergis for access control—bringing 230+ cameras (Axis, Panasonic), hundreds of doors, 60 perimeter gates and more than 2,000 cardholders into one system with HID credentials and biometric options. The unified platform has sped incident processing, improved situational awareness (monitoring baggage screening, curbside and tarmac risks), reduced delays, and positioned the airport to scale to ~500 cameras as part of a $277M expansion; Genetec’s solution is now central to both security and operations.
