A Genetec Case Study
Puebla County faced rising public-safety challenges as its metropolitan area grew and 75% of residents reported feeling threatened by crime. Commissioner Manuel Alonso García led the Ventanas Ciudadanas® program, a community-collaborative video surveillance initiative that brought citizens, police and emergency services together. To unify private and public cameras, alerts and cloud storage, Puebla County used Genetec technologies—notably Security Center and Stratocast—integrated with Microsoft Azure and citizen mobile apps.
Genetec’s unified platform (Security Center with Omnicast, AutoVu, Federation-as-a-Service and Stratocast, plus Security Center Mobile) linked pole-mounted cameras, wireless buttons and smartphone alerts so live video and georeferenced alerts are routed to the nearest responders. The deployment grew from an initial 1,000 cameras toward 1,800, helped nearly all 25 priority neighborhoods record about a 40% decline in crime, cut response times to roughly 2–3 minutes, and—per the project—delivered substantial cost and coverage gains compared with traditional systems.
