Police department increases vehicle identification by 400% with AutoVu

Corman Park Police, a rural law enforcement agency near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, struggled to reliably identify unregistered vehicles, suspended drivers and persons of interest while patrolling long shifts — detection happened mostly by chance and traffic stops produced an 8:1 ratio of speeding tickets to other infractions. Seeking a better solution, Chief John Garnet secured funding through Saskatchewan Government Insurance to deploy Genetec’s AutoVu automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) system and the Security Center platform.

Genetec installed AutoVu (including AutoVu SharpX cameras) with a one-day setup and quick training, mounting three‑camera ALPR systems on patrol vehicles and integrating reads with the national CPIC database. The result: Corman Park Police now identifies about 130 unregistered vehicles and 50 suspended drivers per month — a 400% increase — reversed their previous ticket/infraction ratio, expanded to a second vehicle, improved officer safety and recovered costs within months, with all data managed through Genetec’s Security Center.
