A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Ipswich City Council Case Study

Metropolitan center keeps promise to safeguard citizens by undertaking major video surveillance upgrade with Genetec Security Center

Ipswich City Council in Queensland, Australia needed to modernize its long-running Safe City surveillance system—originally installed in 1994—by migrating to IP cameras and consolidating adjacent systems into a single control room. After a two‑year evaluation the Council selected Genetec’s Security Center (including Omnicast and Mobile) as the new unified video management and security platform.

Genetec deployed a hardware‑agnostic Security Center solution (Omnicast for VMS, Mobile for tablet access and an AutoVu ALPR pilot) enabling the Council to manage about 510 cameras, record HD video at 25 ips with 14‑day retention, and stream live footage to police tablets for faster response. The upgrade improved scalability and operational effectiveness and is credited by Ipswich City Council with a reported 78% reduction in crime.
