Case Study: London Heathrow Airport achieves unified operational visibility and streamlined operations with Genetec Security Center

A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Heathrow Case Study

London Heathrow Airport expands the use of Genetec solutions to meet new business requirements, increasing the value of their investment across airport operations

Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, faces the challenge of running a “small city” operation—managing nearly 80 million passengers, 1,300 daily movements, 76,000 staff and extensive infrastructure across a 1,227‑hectare site—while providing constant, real‑time visibility for security and operations. To meet these demands, Heathrow engaged Genetec and deployed Genetec Security Center (along with Genetec RSA, Mission Control, AutoVu and Clearance) to provide a flexible, unified platform that supports many user groups and diverse applications.

Genetec built a single, scalable platform that now unifies video, ANPR, analytics and incident management across 90 stakeholder groups and 110 control rooms, growing from 2,000 cameras in 2016 to 9,000 today (with plans for 10,000). Using Genetec solutions Heathrow monitors over 150 km of baggage belts, tracks some 150,000 vehicles per day with AutoVu, and automates alerts to reduce disruptions—delivering measurable gains in operational efficiency, stronger security and smoother passenger flow.
