Case Study: Dutch Railways achieves a unified control room and faster incident response with Genetec Security Center

A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Dutch Railways Case Study

How the largest passenger carrier in the Netherlands created a unified control room and how operators can now quickly gather evidence and easily share it with police officers, paramedics, and other partners

Dutch Railways (NS), the Netherlands’ largest passenger carrier running some 4,800 train services daily for about 1 million people, needed to replace end-of-life in‑house control software and unify multiple alarm and surveillance systems. In its procurement NS sought improved IT continuity, an integrated alarm center connecting camera surveillance, the BTS gate alarm system and the Safety Center, and a vendor able to integrate with NS’s complex infrastructure—selecting Genetec and its solutions Genetec Security Center, Genetec Mission Control and Genetec Clearance (implementation delivered with system integrator Bosch).

Genetec implemented a unified control-room platform (Security Center) with decision-support via Mission Control, evidence management through Clearance and a custom incident-recording module tailored to NS workflows. The result was a single shared view for about 100 control‑room staff, faster incident coordination (for example, instant gate‑access notifications to enable ambulance entry), and streamlined evidence sharing with police and partners. About 75% of the custom module’s features were initiated by NS staff and have been folded into the Genetec product, demonstrating measurable adoption and improved operational efficiency under Genetec.
