A Genetec Case Study

How the city council streamlined surveillance operations, saving hundreds of hours and more than doubling video request fulfillment for Police Scotland

The City of Edinburgh Council, which delivers local services for Scotland’s capital and its 500,000+ residents and millions of annual visitors, faced a legacy public security system that blocked its Smart City ambitions. To overcome an inability to integrate new applications and technologies, the Council—working with channel partner North—selected Genetec and deployed Genetec Security Center as the core platform to modernize its operations.

Genetec Security Center unified video surveillance, analytics, and IoT sensors into a single interface, enabling expanded CCTV coverage, AI-based analytics, and the integration of 11,000 smart waste sensors and other city sensors. Genetec’s solution has saved the Operations Centre “hundreds of man hours,” allowed the Council to fulfil more than double the number of Police Scotland video requests, improved situational awareness at major events, and delivered higher-quality evidence that supports more identifications, charges and early guilty pleas.
