Case Study: Hasselt Police achieves 22% crime reduction and faster investigations with Genetec Security Center

A Genetec Case Study

Preview of the Hasselt Police Case Study

How a bustling Belgian city cut crime by 22% in five years

Hasselt Police was struggling with a patchwork of analog and IP cameras that made sharing footage slow and manual—officers routinely waited for video on USB sticks, which overwhelmed resources and hampered investigations. To modernize their command center and improve citywide response, they partnered with Genetec and deployed Genetec Security Center technologies, including Omnicast and AutoVu automatic license plate recognition.

Genetec implemented a unified Security Center platform with Federation, Omnicast video management, AutoVu ALPR in patrol vehicles, and a “triangle strategy” of fixed, temporary and mobile cameras tied into the new Campus H control room. The integrated system links more than 200 cameras and gives direct access to partner feeds, accelerating investigations (a motorcycle theft was solved in under 10 hours) and producing measurable results: crime fell 22% over five years, traffic accidents dropped 15%, and the city collected EUR 21,000 in fines for illegal dumping.
