Gimpo International Airport Deploys Omnicast, Genetec's IP Video Surveillance System

Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), which operates 14 airports including Gimpo International Airport — a major gateway to Seoul handling roughly 226,000 flights and over 17.5 million passengers in 2010 — needed to replace an outdated analog surveillance system that produced low-quality footage, hindered incident response (especially vehicle thefts and fender‑benders in crowded parking lots), and lacked scalability and integration. To meet these needs KAC selected Genetec’s Omnicast Enterprise IP video surveillance solution.

Genetec, with system integrator Insung Information and more than 20 Axis HDTV cameras, deployed Omnicast to monitor 27 public areas across 300,000 m2 and 9,000+ parking spaces; video is stored on redundant servers for 30 days and viewed 24/7 on large displays. The Genetec solution delivered higher‑quality evidence for incident resolution, reduced bandwidth via H.264, automatic alarm-driven camera targeting, seamless server failover, and faster remote maintenance — measurable gains in operational efficiency and security since the August 2010 deployment.
