Edmonton Transit Service centralizes video surveillance with Security Center Omnicast and EIZO monitors

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), the City of Edmonton’s public transit system serving more than a million residents and over 8 million rides per month across buses and an 18‑station LRT, faced limitations from an aging analog surveillance setup that required local DVD retrieval and extra onsite recorders. ETS engaged Genetec to modernize and centralize its video surveillance using the Genetec Security Center platform with Omnicast VMS (and later integrated EIZO IP decoding monitors).

Genetec deployed Security Center Omnicast to manage roughly 1,100 cameras centrally, eliminating time‑consuming DVD workflows and reducing onsite equipment, and worked with EIZO to integrate IP monitors via a plug‑in that can display up to 16 streams directly. The Genetec solution enabled remote monitoring and status visibility, reduced cybersecurity attack surfaces by removing additional PCs, improved situational awareness in blind spots to boost passenger safety, and provided a scalable, flexible platform for future growth.
