A Genetec Case Study
Cornell University, a private Ivy League campus in Ithaca, New York, needed a more efficient way to enforce parking across 276 exterior lots and two garages with limited officer resources and tedious manual lot counts. After evaluating automatic license plate recognition, Cornell engaged Genetec and initially deployed the AutoVu ALPR system (hosted on campus servers) to improve enforcement accuracy and coverage.
Genetec resolved compatibility issues by moving Cornell to AutoVu Managed Services (AMS), a cloud-hosted ALPR service, eliminating local-server headaches and delivering 100% uptime versus roughly 50% previously. The AutoVu solution let officers scan lots from a mobile vehicle and identify all scofflaws across campus within one hour, automate occupancy counts, convert the enforcement vehicle into a mobile office, and improve reporting and dispute resolution—demonstrable gains in efficiency and resource utilization driven by Genetec.
