City of Richmond improves parking enforcement efficiency with AutoVuTM Managed Services

The City of Richmond faced inefficient, labor-intensive parking enforcement across nearly 12,000 on- and off-street spaces: officers walked zones checking decals, chalked tires subject to tampering, and IT-hosted ALPR servers caused frequent outages. Working with SP+ Parking, the city adopted Genetec’s AutoVu ALPR solution and later migrated to Genetec’s AutoVu Managed Services to address reliability, permit validation, and scofflaw identification challenges.

Genetec implemented AutoVu mobile ALPR systems and moved Richmond to the cloud-hosted AutoVu Managed Services, eliminating on-site servers and reducing IT maintenance. The change delivered about 99% system uptime (up from roughly 55%), eliminated manual decal checks and chalking disputes with digital wheel images, and boosted enforcement outcomes — a 6.5% increase in citations and a 13% rise in scofflaw identifications — while Genetec handles updates and support.
