A Genetec Case Study
The University of Louisiana at Monroe faced recurring thefts, obsolete analog DVRs and a limited NVR (capped at 64 cameras), plus a resource-constrained coax access control system across its 238‑acre campus. Seeking a future‑proof, IP‑based and highly scalable platform, ULM worked with Genetec (and integrator United Automation) to replace fragmented systems and better protect students, classrooms and campus assets using Genetec’s Omnicast and the unified Security Center (including Synergis access control).
Genetec deployed a phased, campus‑wide implementation of Omnicast and Security Center with Synergis, migrating existing cameras and adding new Axis IP cameras into a dedicated VLAN with ~100 TB of storage. Today Genetec’s solution manages close to 850 cameras and over 300 card‑access doors, provides two‑week retention at reduced bandwidth, enables quick retrieval/export of time‑stamped evidence for investigations, and supports custom integrations (classroom door toggles, parking counter, lighting triggers, dorm-assistance alarms), significantly reducing thefts and positioning ULM as a flagship security organization in Louisiana.
