Alaskan community standardizes on Genetec Omnicast video surveillance to secure all public facilities and surrounding villages

North Slope Borough, which serves Barrow and seven surrounding arctic villages, needed a more robust, standardized IP video surveillance system to secure public facilities across remote, widely dispersed communities. After evaluating options, the North Slope Borough selected Genetec and its Omnicast solution (part of the Security Center platform), along with Genetec SV‑PRO appliances and mobile access, to replace legacy systems and support coordinated policing and facility monitoring.

Genetec implemented Omnicast to manage more than 110 cameras across fire, police, school and social service facilities, deployed SV‑PRO appliances adding 10–12 cameras each in the villages of Point Hope, Nuiqsut and Kaktovik, and federated remote video back to the central Barrow precinct 300 miles away. The deployment improved remote operations and school security, helped deter vandalism and theft, enabled controlled‑substance monitoring, provides 30‑day retention at police HQ, and delivered measurable operational and cost‑saving efficiencies as the Borough expands the system.
