A Genetec Case Study
Aeroporti di Roma, operator of Rome Fiumicino (Italy’s busiest airport), faced overcrowding, aging infrastructure and the need to modernize security and operations while supporting rapid passenger growth. To upgrade its surveillance and access-control backbone as part of a broader €1bn investment in terminals and services, Aeroporti di Roma deployed Genetec’s Security Center to unify video, access and alarm systems across the airport.
Genetec’s Security Center integrated feeds from 2,600 cameras and thousands of fire sensors, streamlining incident management in the operations room and improving response times and situational awareness. The implementation supported major capacity expansions (a 90,000 m2 non‑Schengen boarding area with 22 new gates for >6 million passengers/year) and helped Fiumicino rise to one of Europe’s most highly rated airports for quality of service while reliably handling more than 40 million passengers a year.
