Rothamsted Research had developed the KnetMiner tool suite for biological data integration and gene network analysis but found it difficult for less specialist users to set up and maintain. They needed an enterprise-level infrastructure to help biologists more easily mine diverse datasets to understand complex traits. Genestack provided its bioinformatics R&D platform to address this challenge.

Genestack's solution integrated the KnetMiner tools into its platform, creating a new environment for building, mining, and distributing large-scale biological knowledge networks. This allowed Rothamsted Research to combine private and public data, moving from raw data to knowledge-based interpretation with greater ease, security, and reproducibility. As a result, Genestack now hosts over 40 plant and crop networks, making evidence-based gene discovery more accessible and providing a flexible system that can be applied beyond agricultural research to areas like toxicology and drug development.
