Case Study: Shopify achieves scalable cloud-based mobile access and automated provisioning with Genea

A Genea Case Study

Preview of the Shopify Case Study

How Shopify automated its access control across eight locations and implemented mobile credentials using Apple Wallet

Shopify, a global commerce company with 8 locations and 12,000+ credentialed users, needed to move from plastic key cards and a legacy on‑prem system to a scalable, cloud‑first access model. The company faced lack of global oversight, manual and time‑intensive credentialing, and adoption challenges as it shifted to a digital‑first workplace, so it engaged Genea and its cloud access control platform (mobile credentials, SSO, APIs and Apple Wallet support) to modernize access across the enterprise.

Genea migrated Shopify to a cloud‑based platform with single sign‑on, automated user provisioning, Apple Wallet integration, a Global Dashboard and APIs, enabling self‑service digital badge distribution and unified GSOC monitoring. The implementation eliminated printing/shipping logistics, cut administrative hours, and improved scalability and oversight; about 50% of Shopify’s 12,000 users now use mobile credentials and 2,247 employees have added credentials to Apple Wallet, demonstrating measurable adoption and time savings.
