iRobot ConnectR partnered with Geisel Software to help bring its “virtual visitation robot” concept to life. As iRobot’s first attempt at a telepresence robot, ConnectR combined two high-resolution video cameras, two-way audio, and remote control capabilities, but iRobot needed support preparing this connected product for reliable mass production.

Geisel Software built a built-in test system that ran the robot through a full manufacturing validation sequence, checking key functions like wheels, video feeds, and WiFi before sending pass/fail results to a factory-floor server. This helped iRobot identify quality issues earlier and determine whether failures occurred in manufacturing or after shipment. While ConnectR never launched, Geisel Software’s solution was adopted for later projects and helped pave the way for iRobot’s first autonomous telepresence robot, Ava.
