Case Study: LayerVault learns critical KPI-tracking lessons with Geckoboard

A Geckoboard Case Study

Preview of the LayerVault Case Study

How Tracking KPIs Could Have Saved LayerVault

LayerVault was a version-control startup for designers that ultimately failed to find product–market fit. Founder Kelly Sutton attributes a major factor to not tracking key performance indicators—especially monthly churn and retention—and never implementing a recommended Geckoboard dashboard, so important warning signs were missed.

At his next company, imgix, Sutton set up Geckoboard dashboards on office TVs (a company view with daily revenue vs. prior month and a Salesforce-powered sales board), iteratively refined the widgets, and made KPIs visible to the whole team. The result: faster, data-informed decisions, proactive customer outreach, clearer revenue tracking, and an improved customer experience.
