Reducing door-to-balloon time to speed up treatment

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, a 183-bed facility in Barrington, IL, needed to reduce door-to-balloon time so it could more quickly identify acute myocardial infarction patients and improve outcomes. The hospital worked with GE Healthcare and its MUSE Cardiology Information System to streamline emergency cardiac care and support faster diagnosis.

GE Healthcare helped the hospital train EMS teams to capture and transmit 12-lead ECGs from the field directly into MUSE, enabling faster physician review and earlier cath lab preparation. As a result, Advocate Good Shepherd reduced door-to-balloon time from 90 minutes to 60 minutes, with staff able to begin preparation and diagnosis 15 to 20 minutes before patients arrived.
