A GE Healthcare Case Study
Ortho Northeast, a premier orthopedic practice in the Greater Fort Wayne, Indiana area, wanted to expand one of its offices from four to eight physicians while doubling x-ray volume without adding significant space or exam rooms. The practice turned to GE Healthcare’s Centricity Practice Solution to better understand workflow bottlenecks and improve operational efficiency.
Using GE Healthcare’s Centricity Practice Solution, Ortho Northeast changed patient routing so recheck patients were sent directly from the lobby to x-ray and runners escorted patients to imaging, freeing exam and x-ray rooms more quickly. These adjustments reduced recheck patient cycle time from 15 minutes to 6 minutes and x-ray cycle time from 19 minutes to 10 minutes, nearly tripled exam room utilization, increased rehabilitation and physical therapy throughput by 49 percent, improved patient satisfaction, and avoided $800,000 in construction costs.
