Implementing MUSE to streamline ECG workflow

Pocono Medical Center, a 232-bed healthcare facility in East Stroudsburg, PA, needed to improve its labor-intensive ECG workflow, reduce paper handling, free up workspace, and speed up physician over-reading as ECG volume grew to nearly 100 per day. To address these challenges, the hospital turned to GE Healthcare and its MUSE Cardiology Information System.

GE Healthcare implemented MUSE to automate ECG orders, results, billing, and electronic signatures, enabling digital transmission to the EMR and remote physician access. The results included ECG turnaround meeting a 24-hour goal, charge capture increasing by more than 50%, a drop from 45 minutes to 10 minutes per ECG, and savings of 200,000 sheets of paper in 2007.
