Toray Plastics (America), Inc. Optimizes Manufacturing Operational Performance With Big Data Analytics

Toray Plastics Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Toray Industries that manufactures high‑performance food packaging films, faced rising quality and waste pressures as consumer demand extended shelf life and product consistency. To standardize, simplify and digitize operations the company selected GE Digital (with partner AutomaTech and implementation support from Manveco) and adopted tools from GE Digital’s Brilliant Manufacturing suite—notably Plant Applications, iFIX, Workflow and Historian—to gain real‑time visibility and tighter control of production.

GE Digital implemented an on‑premises Plant Applications deployment integrated with SAP (exchanging roughly 30,000 data points per day), plus iFIX, Workflow and Historian, enabling edge‑to‑enterprise analytics, downtime dashboards and “by‑the‑numbers” operational management. As a result Toray Plastics Inc. reduced lead time for product traceability, saved on film recovery, increased film productivity and line efficiency, raised uptime and lowered defective rates—delivering clear material‑waste reductions and measurable quality improvements.
