A GE Digital Case Study
Supermetanol, a Venezuela‑based petrochemical company, needed to improve planning for turnarounds (planned shutdowns) and expand its mechanical integrity program without adding risk to critical assets or staff. Working with GE Digital and its Predix Asset Performance Management (Predix APM) tools, Supermetanol sought to better identify mechanical, process, engineering, and project tasks to avoid costly unplanned production losses.
GE Digital’s Predix APM team ran an APM assessment and implemented a four‑phase turnaround mechanical integrity model using APM Integrity, integrating existing IOW, inspection and RBI data to optimize work lists, prioritize risk, and create a mechanical strategy master plan. The effort reduced inspections and non‑conformances, improved degradation detection and maintenance quality, and delivered measurable impact: $325K annual savings in maintenance/logistics, avoidance of an estimated $450K per day in potential production loss, and a production gain of 40 tons/day (1,200 tons/month) equivalent to $260K per month.
