Standardizing Workflows Of Water Operations

Waterford Township Department of Public Works, which maintains an extensive water and sewer infrastructure for over 71,700 residents, faced the dual challenge of linking SCADA, CMMS and DMS systems and preserving institutional knowledge as long‑time staff retired. To standardize procedures and automate responses to real‑time operational conditions, Waterford implemented Workflow from GE Digital, integrating it with their GE Digital iFIX SCADA and Historian systems and the Cityworks CMMS.

GE Digital’s Workflow platform was configured to monitor SCADA data, trigger condition‑ or time‑based workflows, generate automatic work orders via the Cityworks API, and present electronic SOPs (eSOPs) to field staff. The result, according to GE Digital and Waterford, is improved process consistency, faster identification and correction of deviations, better manage‑by‑exception responsiveness, and significant staff time savings (hundreds of hours) through automated step‑by‑step processes and auto‑generated work orders.
