Severstal Reduces Unscheduled Maintenance Delays By 20% With Asset Performance Management

Severstal, a global vertically integrated steel producer with about 50,000 employees and operations across several countries, faced weak integration between production and maintenance, a limited reliability culture, and poor maintenance planning. To address these challenges, Severstal partnered with GE Digital to implement Predix Asset Performance Management (Predix APM) as part of its Organization Efficiency in Maintenance and Repair initiative.

GE Digital’s Predix APM solution, deployed with Maintex support and integrated with Severstal’s SAP systems and SAP Work Manager, enabled automated reliability processes, strategy development, and a criticality analysis of 17,000 machines; 390 users were trained and six pilot machines tested. As a result, Severstal reduced unscheduled maintenance delays for core equipment by 20% from 2013–2015, even while cutting maintenance budget and personnel, and has developed a roadmap to expand Predix APM capabilities.
