See How SSE Achieved Greater Plant Reliability

SSE, a broad-based UK and Ireland energy company, faced reduced thermal generation availability due to recurring technical failures and needed better early-failure detection, increased plant availability, controlled CAPEX, reduced insurance costs, and condition-based maintenance. To address this, SSE partnered with GE Digital and deployed GE Digital’s Asset Performance Management (APM) solution and an Equipment Performance Center (EPC).

GE Digital’s APM turned plant data into predictive, model-based condition monitoring across 11+ sites and 1,026 monitored assets (tracking combustion dynamics, turbine vibration, boiler temperatures, creep and safety cases). The program cut plant failures, delivered approximately £3M/year in savings from early failure detection, prevented a generator failure (saving ~£100K in repairs), and reduced insurance costs by around £6–7.5M/year, while improving availability and CAPEX control.
