Santos GLNG Creates Sustainable Operations with Predix Asset Performance Management

Santos, the GLNG venture producing liquefied natural gas from Queensland coal seams, was managing roughly 500 widely distributed wells (adding ~100 per year) across difficult terrain and needed to reduce costly travel and bring maintenance decisions into a central control point. Facing siloed spreadsheets, untraceable activity, and little corporate asset strategy, Santos turned to GE Digital and its Predix Asset Performance Management (Predix APM) to establish an intelligent, remote-first APM approach.

GE Digital implemented Predix APM with dashboards, a trained super‑user group, condition monitoring and rollups for asset utilization, health and stability, plus videoconferencing to connect field teams with the Brisbane control center. The solution enabled remote drilling into location/asset/tag issues, helped identify two valves trending toward failure and repair them without incident, and delivered measurable benefits—reduced field travel, lower operating expenditures, higher productivity and more sustainable, robust operations.
