A GE Digital Case Study
SABIC, a global diversified chemical company operating 63 facilities and managing over $90 billion in assets, needed to improve work-process maturity, data quality, asset reliability and manufacturing excellence as it scaled production. To build a company-wide Asset Performance Management (APM) culture, SABIC partnered with GE Digital and adopted Predix Asset Performance Management (Predix APM), training more than 20,000 employees in APM concepts.
GE Digital implemented Predix APM through a multi-step program—starting with Production Loss Accounting, asset criticality ranking, Risk-Based Inspection and Reliability-Centered Maintenance studies, and root cause analysis—to standardize monitoring, incident classification and corrective actions. The program delivered measurable results: mean time between failures (MTBF) for pipes improved from 172 days to 2,225 days (a 1,135% increase), with verified reductions in leak rates and failure counts, while SABIC continues to embed reliability through ongoing training and internal initiatives.
