A GE Digital Case Study
Rio Tinto Kennecott, one of the largest copper producers in the United States, faced fragmented instrument and valve data collected across manual rounds, CMMS, production loss tools and process historians, making it difficult to prioritize maintenance and improve operator productivity. To modernize rounds and consolidate asset health data, Rio Tinto Kennecott engaged GE Digital to deploy an Asset Performance Management (APM) solution.
GE Digital’s APM (built on the Meridium/Emerson implementation) aggregated smart-instrument and historian data, supported a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) approach and criticality analysis, and used policy-manager calculations to surface red/yellow/green asset health indicators and failure-mode insights. The solution delivered dashboards and mobile access that let teams drill down to the failing asset, created a common language for risk and failure modes, and increased asset and personnel productivity across the mine.
