Reliability Centered Maintenance Strategy For Anglo Platinum Helps Improve Safety

Anglo Platinum, the world’s leading primary producer of platinum, faced challenges in improving safety and optimizing maintenance: disconnected spreadsheets and databases, no integration with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM), no way to share or measure past studies, and no living process for reliability efforts. To address these gaps the company selected GE Digital’s RCM capability (now part of Asset Strategy Optimization in the APM suite) to bring a standards-based, end-to-end approach to reliability-centered maintenance and FMEA analyses.

GE Digital implemented its RCM capability integrated with SAP PM, providing SAE JA1011-based frameworks, automated re-evaluation of strategies, and direct integration of RCM recommendations into maintenance plans. Anglo Platinum installed the solution in days, completed configuration in two weeks, trained users in one week, and had a productive pilot within a few weeks. As a result, Anglo expects improved safety performance, reduced critical equipment and production downtime, more effective use of maintenance budget, optimized maintenance strategies, better operational reliability and equipment performance, and continuous asset performance improvement.
