Panama Minimizes Imbalance Penalties with Power Forecasting

Panama Group faced strict India RRF regulatory requirements and needed to improve short‑term wind power forecasting while evaluating weather data quality and resolution. Unreliable site connectivity and limited turbine data availability made closed‑loop control difficult, so Panama Group engaged GE Digital and its Operations Optimization solution to tackle these challenges.

GE Digital implemented a pilot on one wind farm (44 WTGs, 70 MW), deploying a new wind power forecast algorithm with 1–4 hour prediction horizons and a hybrid on‑premises/cloud architecture to overcome connectivity issues. The GE Digital solution delivered 94% forecast accuracy (6% above industry “best” benchmarks), aligned interests through Outcome as a Service, and reduced imbalance penalties by about $126K per farm annually.
