Marathon Petroleum Corporation, an integrated refiner and marketer with more than 125 years in the energy business, had been using Asset Performance Management (APM) from Meridium (now GE Digital) since 1999 and supports over 1,300 APM users. After a heavily customized SAP implementation that didn’t align with its reliability program, Marathon struggled to consistently roll out new technology, fully leverage EAM/APM capabilities, speed issue resolution, and supplement staff with as‑needed APM expertise.
To address this, Marathon worked with its APM team and GE Digital to implement a customized operational support agreement featuring a designated APM resource, a blend of onsite functional and offsite technical support, a working task list, and tailored training. Backed by GE Digital, the program expedited capability implementation, improved daily use and quality of support for the APM platform, established monthly coordination meetings, and delivered faster issue resolution and flexible ongoing support for Marathon’s reliability team.
