Major European Grid Provider Creates an Effective Micro-Grid

Major European Power and Grid Provider needed to adapt EU grid architecture to accommodate large-scale renewables and growing electric vehicle charging, and to create a viable community micro‑grid that could manage intermittency and peak demand. They engaged GE Digital (working with consortium partners) to deploy a digital micro‑grid approach combining forecasting, storage and demand‑side measures.

GE Digital implemented a solution using next‑day solar forecasts, battery storage at key network nodes and consumer incentive programs to balance supply and demand and enable islanding. The GE Digital micro‑grid delivers 600 kW of capacity, improves integration of renewables, boosts efficiency, promotes prosumer engagement and helps reduce CO2 emissions.
