Case Study: Kospo achieves 215 MW capacity gain and up to 4.3% efficiency improvement with GE Digital's AGP & OpFlex

A GE Digital Case Study

Preview of the Kospo Case Study

Kospo Met Increasing Market Demands With Existing Turbine Upgrade And Software Solution

Kospo, South Korea’s largest electric utility, faced shrinking reserve margins (as low as 4% at peak) amid rising demand and needed more capacity without building new plants. To meet that challenge, Kospo turned to GE Digital, deploying the OpFlex advanced controls software alongside GE’s Advanced Gas Path (AGP) hardware upgrades on its 7F gas turbine fleet.

GE Digital implemented AGP + OpFlex upgrades on two units at Shin‑Incheon and Busan, increasing output and efficiency—Shin‑Incheon gained 180 MW and 4.3% efficiency, Busan gained 35 MW and 2.6% efficiency—and together the sites added 215 MW (enough to power about 160,000 homes). The vendor’s solution improved turbine availability and operational flexibility, marking the 100th AGP/OpFlex installation and enabling Kospo to meet demand without a new build.
