Joy Global Optimizes Maintenance Strategies And Cuts Processing Time By 75% With APM

Joy Global, a leading supplier of mining equipment and services operating across 135 locations worldwide, faced challenges maintaining aging fleets and reducing scheduled and unscheduled downtime. Although it used an IPSECA maintenance model and SAP as its CMMS, the identification, close, and analysis steps were weak and much of the knowledge was tribal, leading to risk-averse part replacement and excess inventory. To address this, Joy Global engaged GE Digital and deployed APM Strategy on Predix APM to strengthen identification and maintenance strategy.

Using GE Digital’s Predix APM RCM and strategy-management capabilities, Joy Global moved maintenance recommendations into the RCM module, built reusable strategy templates, and integrated outputs directly into SAP for work-order generation. The result: a roughly 75% reduction in maintenance package preparation/processing time, improved identification of critical tasks, better inventory control, and a standardized, IPSECA-aligned workflow—already piloted across three sites, including Chile.
