Hydrogen Leakage In The Pipeline Upstream From A Generator At A Gas-Fired Power Plant

Gas-Fired Power Plant experienced an unexpected hydrogen leak in the pipeline upstream of a generator when Gen 3 H2 Flow stepped up to the sensor maximum range (20 m3/day) on May 6. GE Digital’s SmartSignal analytics and its Industrial Performance and Reliability Center (IPRC) monitored the plant and flagged the abnormal hydrogen flow for investigation.

GE Digital’s SmartSignal detection and IPRC reporting prompted the customer to inspect the pipeline; degassing valves were reseated and hydrogen flow returned to normal by May 13. By detecting an estimated increase of roughly 8 m3/day (peaking at the sensor maximum of 20 m3/day) early, GE Digital helped the plant fix the leak before significant hydrogen loss or safety incidents occurred.
