Hardware And Software Upgrade To Existing Turbines Boosts Power Output For Transcanada

TransCanada, a leading North American energy infrastructure company, faced aging GE turbines at its Ravenswood (serving over 20% of New York City) and Mackay River sites and needed cleaner, more reliable capacity to meet growing demand. They engaged GE Digital to perform hardware and software upgrades using the Advanced Gas Path (AGP) solution along with performance software AutoTune DX and Cold Day Performance.

GE Digital replaced key turbine components with advanced materials and deployed AutoTune DX and Cold Day Performance to extract more output while maintaining emissions compliance. The work delivered measurable gains — Mackay River: +10% output, +2% fuel efficiency; Ravenswood: +5% output, +1% fuel efficiency — with projected annual fuel savings of about $900K (≈223,440 decatherms), cleaner displaced megawatts, and new revenue opportunities in the power market.
