A GE Digital Case Study
Gerdau Steel, a leading global supplier of specialty steel, needed to reduce unplanned downtime and adopt more flexible operating structures. To address this, Gerdau Steel partnered with GE Digital and implemented APM and Historian software alongside GE Digital’s Industrial Performance & Reliability Center (IPRC) remote monitoring to detect impending equipment failures and enable proactive repairs.
Using GE Digital’s IPRC remote monitoring and Managed Services (Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics), the one‑year pilot flagged two major issues within six months, preventing 130 hours of Sinter Plant downtime and avoiding over $1.5 million in costs. GE Digital’s model‑based predictive maintenance and ongoing monitoring delivered measurable reliability improvements and quicker, data‑driven interventions.
