GE and Brazil’s Canoeing Team Create App that Leverages Big Data Analytics to Optimize Athletes’ Performance

The Brazilian Canoe Federation faced a lack of real-time monitoring and relied on manual data collection, which limited coaches’ and athletes’ ability to optimize training. GE Digital, working with the GE Global Research Center in Brazil and using its Predix platform, partnered with the federation to address the need for data-driven, real-time performance insights.

GE Digital built an app that uses sensors on canoes and athletes to stream paddling frequency, intensity, speed, location and heart-rate data to a tablet edge device and the cloud, displaying analytics on a dashboard for immediate action. The solution has given coaches and athletes real-time visibility to make data-driven adjustments, improving training precision and performance outcomes and shifting the teams’ approach to rely on continuous analytics from GE Digital’s Predix-based solution.
