Bord Gáis Energy's 445‑MW Whitegate gas combined‑cycle power plant — which supplies about 10% of Ireland’s power — needed to prepare for grid challenges driven by increased renewable generation and to ensure reliable, on‑demand capacity. To avoid unplanned downtime and enable condition‑based monitoring, Bord Gáis Energy engaged GE Digital and chose solutions including Asset Performance Management (APM), Operations Optimization/Advanced Controls and the Predix platform.

GE Digital deployed 141 sensors, APM with ~300 diagnostic algorithms and Advanced Controls on Predix to provide 24/7 monitoring, consolidated performance visibility and early failure warnings. The integrated solution reduced downtime and balance‑of‑plant costs, produced 21 additional “catches,” delivered €1.2M in cost avoidance in the first year (potentially another €1.2M) and a total €2.28M positive financial impact, with no plant unavailability for covered equipment.
