BC Hydro Gains Contextual Insights from Two Million Smart Meters

BC Hydro faced the challenge of integrating and analyzing data from nearly two million smart meters and dozens of disparate systems—more than 5,000 relays, 2,000 routers and some 30 OT/IT and legacy systems—during its smart meter roll-out. To address the volume and variety of data and give operations teams the tools to quickly identify and remediate issues, BC Hydro engaged GE Digital to design a scalable data architecture and integration platform.

GE Digital implemented a consolidated data architecture and advanced visualization platform that brought data from the meters, relays, routers and 30 systems into a single view. As a result, operators can now triage hundreds of millions of data elements daily and have a contextual, enterprise-wide view of operations, improving situational awareness and remediation efficiency.
